I have been surprised at the distances where I was able to reliably ID what I was looking at, but the main way to understand COTI is that is optimized for short range instant target acquisition.

COTI is not great at ID as distance increase but again if you have a lot of time behind full thermal COTI actually works really well farther out. I've seen cows at 500 or 600 yards easy and people and deer at 300 yards depending on conditions. People will stand out very clearly as people though, so if you are using it to patrol your property it is still reasonably effective to 300 yards if they are in the openĬOTI on the other hand is good at detection generally less than 200 yards, maybe 300. You'll see it for sure but as the distance increases they tend to look the same.

Past that and if don't have a lot of experience you will really have a hard time knowing if you're looking at a deer, a cow or a pig. You can reliably expect to figure out what you are looking at around 100 yards with the Breach, maybe a bit further if you have a lot of time behind thermal. With the Breach you can see animals and people out to a good 300 yards and maybe further depending on conditions, but ID is very difficult at longer ranges due to the lower resolution 320 core. The Breach is overall much better at detection than COTI because it's a full thermal, but COTI is faster for what it is designed to do. They are designed for two different things and aren't exactly an apples to apples comparison, other than they are roughly similar in price
