I leave my car in my garage sometimes for days not touching it until we want to go dine in kearny Mesa, la Jolla or elsewhere. If I work downtown it's a mere couple trolly stops. I live and work downtown and also telecommute all over SD to enjoy all the nice beaches and cafes. Most places have nice amenities, there is always something going on, and you're opposite of traffic if you even need to be in it. If you have a comfortable amount of money, then it can be really nice. I know plenty of happy people that live downtown. I think most people genuinely enjoy living here. Keep in mind reddit is a cesspool or negativity and people will take their hot takes to get attention. The people are genuine I think and I don’t ever feel like others around me give off an aura of pretentiousness.ĭT has its positives and it’s drawbacks-much like any other place. I love the bustle of the city: the train horns at night, the sound of outdoor concerts in the distance, and the sound of planes flying overhead. Groceries are expensive, yes, but all the more reason to go Trader Joe’s in Liberty Station or the farmer’s market on the weekends in Little Italy.

I don’t feel afraid walking alone at night (granted I’m 6’1 and male, may be different for a female still). Homelessness is less of an issue around the Marina and they are usually isolated and don’t pose much of a threat. I pay $1900 in rent for a 1b/1br condo with no additional charge for my parking spot. Unlike most others, I love living downtown.
