Unfortunately, this won’t be the last time we see something like this. In that time, it has developed a robust user base, more than fifty million strong.

The app was thoroughly scanned and checked, and has been available on the Google Play store for months. That’s what makes this case both interesting and noteworthy.

This is hardly the first time that an Android app has been found to have a critical security flaw, but thanks to rigorous checking and testing, almost none of the flawed apps are available on the Google Play store. Sand Studios has made the short-term recommendation that users simply uninstall the app until a fix can be implemented, and a spokesman for the company estimated that they would have one ready in about two weeks.

The problem is that the app utilizes unsecured channels to send data between the app and their statistics server, which means that any semi-talented hacker could use a man-in-the-middle attack and intercept the data in order to gain access to your login credentials.Īrmed with those, they can force an update of the app, injecting malicious code that allows them full control, and suddenly, they have unfettered access to both your phone and your PC where they can cause all manner of mayhem. You may want to wait a couple of weeks before actually installing it, however, because security firm Zimperium has found a number of critical vulnerabilities in the app that puts anyone who uses it at risk.Ĭreated by Sand Studios, AirDroid is an app that allows you to share messages and files between your phone and your PC, which is fantastic. Avoid the app and don't give the company your money. If you haven’t heard of AirDroid, you should check into it, because it’s an amazing app.

That I would consider fair if it wasn't for the fact that the software is constantly buggy and the huge security flaws that have been discovered that the company attempts to cover up. I was told by their "support" that they couldn't do that and kept just asking me to try various things to make it work, send them log files etc. I paid for a premium subscription and as I have over 200 days left on it, I asked for a refund, even just the outstanding amount. Repeated force-closing and attempting to uninstall with multiple reboots didn't help. After repeatedly getting frustrated with it, I decided to uninstall it at which point I discovered I couldn't. It is not possible to reset where the location is. My most recent experience is that it won't allow me to access the SD card on my phone, despite telling the app the location of the card in the filesystem and it showing my files there, the desktop app refuses to access it telling me I must tell the app where the card is. Also recently, the bugs are becoming ridiculous. Over time though, it has become apparent it has had massive security flaws and the company has not been honest about them until outed online. This app used to be quite good for transferring files and mirroring notifications, etc.

I had to re install and ignore the update. I did and it turned to a shower of mearde. Don't download the update after youv'e installed. Though it did the job the transfer speed allowed you to make a cuppa before the photo arrived on the Mac, so I installed Air Droid on the Mac and phone and Oh hooo! an image jumps straight over to the Mac and you can just drag it onto the desktop, like, in 2 secs! Fantastic. unless you use I phone with the Mac, so I went Bluetooth between the devices.

Getting my head round the IMac was hard enough, but after about 6 months, I am liking it a lot BUT the relationship between an android phone and an IMac is strained to say the least. I'm not an Apple lover anyway and much prefer my Android phones, as I have the freedom to mount as another drive. I was amazed to see such poor reviews for this app! I recently went over to an Imac as fed up with MS Windows and updates and WIN7 going obsolete.
